FAQ's

Is Mould Testing Necessary in Australian Homes?

If visible mould is present in a property, laboratory testing is often not required. Visible mould should be addressed promptly by a qualified professional to prevent further spread and minimise potential health impacts.

Testing is most useful when the source or extent of contamination is unclear.

When Should You Test for Mould in Your Property?

Unexplained Musty Odours

A persistent musty smell may indicate hidden mould growth behind walls, ceilings, under flooring, or within air conditioning systems. Testing can help locate concealed contamination and assess spore levels.

Water Damage or Leaks

Properties that have experienced roof leaks, plumbing failures, flooding, or water ingress may develop mould in concealed areas such as wall cavities, subfloors, insulation, and ceiling spaces. Testing can determine whether contamination has spread beyond visible areas.

Unexplained Health Concerns

If a medical professional suspects environmental factors may be contributing to respiratory irritation, allergies, or other symptoms, mould testing can help identify potential indoor air quality issues.

Pre‑Purchase Inspections

Testing before purchasing a property can provide peace of mind by identifying hidden mould issues that may not be visible during a standard building inspection.

Landlord and Tenant Disputes

Independent mould testing can help verify the presence and extent of contamination within rental properties and provide objective documentation.

Our Professional Mould Services — Levels of Treatment Based on Severity

Mould problems vary in severity. Some situations involve light, surface contamination, while others involve extensive growth linked to moisture and structural issues.

Mould Wizards provides two levels of professional service depending on the extent of contamination.

Level 1 — Professional Mould Treatment (Surface Contamination)

Mould treatment focuses on removing surface contamination and improving indoor environmental conditions. It is generally suitable for mild to moderate mould issues where contamination is limited and moisture problems are minor or already resolved.

Mould treatment may include:

• HEPA‑Filtered Vacuuming — Professional High‑Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) vacuum systems capture fine mould spores from surfaces and contents, reducing airborne contamination.

• Surface Cleaning — Specialised antimicrobial solutions and cleaning methods are used to remove visible mould from walls, ceilings, fixtures, and furnishings.

• Microbial Misting — A fine antimicrobial mist is dispersed to reduce airborne spores and inhibit further mould growth.

• Preventative Surface Protection — Application of protective treatments to help limit future mould development on cleaned surfaces.

• Treatment Reporting — A professional treatment report is provided outlining affected areas, works completed, and recommendations for ongoing moisture management.

While effective for smaller or early‑stage mould problems, treatment alone does not correct underlying moisture sources such as leaks, condensation issues, or water damage.

Level 2 — Comprehensive Mould Remediation (Extensive Contamination)

Mould remediation is a comprehensive process designed to address extensive contamination and prevent recurrence. It focuses on both mould removal and resolving the moisture conditions that allowed growth to occur.

Professional mould remediation may include:

• Detailed Inspection and Assessment — Identifying the extent of contamination and locating moisture sources using specialised equipment.

• Containment of Affected Areas — Sealing work zones to prevent cross‑contamination to unaffected parts of the property.

• HEPA Air Filtration and Negative Air Pressure — Industrial air scrubbers filter airborne mould spores while maintaining controlled airflow.

• Removal of Contaminated Materials — Heavily affected plasterboard, insulation, carpets, or other porous materials may be safely removed and disposed of.

• HEPA Vacuuming and Deep Cleaning — Thorough cleaning of surfaces and contents to remove settled spores.

• Antimicrobial Treatment — Professional‑grade solutions applied to inhibit regrowth.

• Moisture Management and Prevention Guidance — Identifying moisture sources and providing professional recommendations. Remediation works are undertaken once plumbing leaks, building defects, or water ingress issues have been rectified by the relevant trades.

Remediation provides a long‑term solution for significant mould problems and is recommended when contamination is widespread, recurring, or linked to structural moisture issues.

Qualified and Professionally Trained Technicians

Mould inspection and remediation should only be performed by properly trained professionals. Mould Wizards’ technicians are independently trained and accredited in professional mould inspection, testing, treatment, and remediation practices.

Our training ensures work is completed using industry‑recognised procedures, appropriate containment methods, and specialised equipment designed to protect both occupants and property during remediation works.

Engaging qualified technicians helps ensure mould issues are addressed safely, thoroughly, and in accordance with professional standards.
